Demoing A Linoleum Tiles Off A Finish Wood Floor
This is what my completed project looks like.
Demoing a linoleum tiles off a finish wood floor. Use boiling or hot water to remove adhesive from a wood floor. The old linoleum and adhesive paper can be removed from your wood floors however provided you take the time to get it all up. Get the dirt off before it gets ground in and your vinyl will last longer. Old danny boy got it right.
Removing floor coverings helps the installer assess the condition of the subfloor. Score the flooring into 6 12 strips. Simply use a wet rag to sufficiently coat the adhesive and wait the 10 minutes and scrape off. Discard all tiles as you remove them.
Sturdy and solid. By not removing the existing floor covering it is difficult to see if the subfloor is cracked rotted or otherwise is not in good condition. Loosen stuck tiles by carefully applying heat to the tile surface with a heat gun or a wallpaper steamer. Make sure that the existing floor covering and the subfloor and any possible underlayment are sturdy enough for the installation of the vinyl flooring.
A glue gun can burn the wood if you are not careful. Remove the adhesive residue by scraping with a handheld scraper. If you apply harsh chemicals or spend time scraping at the glue it may damage the wood. Once the floor is leveled out with all the scratches gone and presenting all as the same uniform color the gloss needs to be.
Scrape up the tile as soon as is it soft enough. Industrial floor machines can also be used on linoleum to remove existing finishes remove scratches and nicely prepare a floor for refinishing but extreme care must be used not to burn through the color on the flooring. The key to keeping any floor in good shape is to keep it clean and sheet vinyl is no exception. Scrape off the linoleum tiles with a handheld scraping tool or a long handled floor scraper.
Unless you are submerging your wood floor i would not worry about the wood warping. If it s a beautiful hardwood floor consider sanding the glue adhesive from the wood floor to keep it in the best condition possible. Before selecting which method you ll use to remove the tile adhesive assess what type of flooring is beneath the tiles.
